Mathematical Models and Artificial Intelligence for the Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes
Within the European project PRAESIIDIUM, research groups integrate mathematical models, biological simulations, and explainable AI to design innovative prevention strategies for type 2 diabetes (T2DM). In a dialogue with Prof. Fiorella Operto (Scuola di Robotica), this issue features the contributions of Alessia Paglialonga (CNR-IEIIT) on algorithm transparency and lifestyle modeling, Laura Azzimonti (SUPSI-IDSIA) on physics-informed ML and fast T2DM simulators, and Paolo Tieri (CNR-IAC) on synthetic data from integrated metabolism–immune models. Together, their work highlights how combining models, clinical data, and open science can deliver more personalized, interpretable, and trustworthy tools for chronic disease prevention.
